The National Department of Higher Education and Training (NDHeT) has established a system of student promotion which is based on academic performance and successful student progression toward Certification at exit levels 2, 3 and 4. Students will be provided appropriate remedial experiences within the regular classroom as well as through coordinated supplemental services which meet individual student needs. Each student progress will be systematically monitored, assessed and reported on.
Certification Requirements (NDHET Policy)
In order for a student to be certificated, at Levels 2, 3 and 4, he/she must have obtained at least:
A condemnation of a maximum of one (1) fundamental subject will be applied as follows:
If a student obtains less than 40% in English First Additional Language or Life Orientation, his or her result
may be condoned by a maximum of 5% to the required promotion requirement of 40% in that language subject or Life Orientation. If a student obtains less than 30% in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, his or her result may be condoned by a maximum of 5% to the required promotion requirement of 30% in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.
In order to progress at Port Elizabeth College (PEC), from one level to the next a student must pass
If a student fails to write an examination in November examination sitting, without a valid reason i.e. Doctors Certificate, he/she will not be allowed to write the examination in February of the following year. If a student fails a subject in the November examination and the supplementary examination immediately following that he/she is required to re-generate an Internal Continuous Assessment (ICASS) mark and reregister for the following November examination. Re-Generation of Internal Continuous Assessment (ICASS) and Integrated Summative Assessment (ISAT) Marks if a student fails a subject in the November examination and the supplementary examination immediately following that he/she is required to regenerate an ICASS mark and re-register for the following November examination. If a student needs to regenerate an ICASS mark she/he must register for the specific subject(s) within the relevant Division
An ISAT is valid for three (3) years. A student is not allowed to regenerate an ISAT mark after 3 years have lapsed, unless he/she was forced to exit the system for a period of time and was unable to complete a qualification, within the prescribed 3 years. Evidence to this effect must be provided.
